The Uncle Remus Museum

Take a step back in time detailing a significant slice of Eatonton’s history as it details the works of Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus stories. This is a great place to immerse yourself in the heritage and history of the tales. The front lawn features one of the Critter parks, hand-carved wood characters bringing the stories to life.

Historical Walking Tour

Pick up the Historical Walking Tour brochure at the Visit Eatonton Visitor’s Center on the exterior display, or stop in and grab a free coffee or water for your walk. As you stroll the streets of historic downtown Eatonton, you’ll get a taste of Eatonton’s rich history and architecture featuring over 100 Antebellum and Victorian-era residential and commercial buildings in the historic district.

Lunch at Tastee Chick

Rock Hawk Effigy

125 Wallace Dam Rd., Eatonton, GA 31024

One of two Native American bird-shaped effigies in Putnam County, Rock Hawk features something for everyone. The drive from downtown Eatonton to the effigy is along one of the state's Historic Scenic Byways and you will surely find out why. At the effigy, view the historic shape from the observation tower, hike one of the trails, view historical markers, and see a local mural depicting Putnam County history.

Shopping at Harmony Crossing

Once done with your outdoor adventure, stop at Harmony Crossing, an outdoor retail and restaurant center. There are plenty of unique shops to stop into before dinner at one of the restaurants within the complex.

Dinner at The Silver Moon

1077 Greensboro Rd., Eatonton, GA 31024

One of the hidden gems of the Lake Oconee area is The Silver Moon, a fun and eclectic restaurant and bar hidden alongside Highway 44. Even with no sign out front, the parking lot is always full. The only reservation system in place is the effective chalkboard system at the front door.
